Just a little humble brag here but a good reminder of what is possible when putting your mind to it! I discovered the FIRE concept around May of 2015. My investment portfolio sat at $129,500 coming into the year on Jan 1 after spending the latter half of 2015 investing as much as I could. I came into 2016 setting 3 levels of goals, all pretty lofty:
1) Have my investments be worth $100,000 more than on Jan. 1 - This was what I was hoping for, as I knew I'd be able to invest roughly $100,000 this year if I absolutely pushed myself. This was achieved on August 31 of this year ($229,000)
2) Have my investments cross $250,000 - a nice, big, round, quarter-of-a-million number. This was achieved on November 22.
3) My stretch goal, that I just didn't see as possible (especially in January of this year - when I dumped a lump sum amount into the markets at the end of the month as that is when I received it and promised myself I would despite what the market conditions were) was to double my investments to $259,000. Well, I'm extremely excited (and blown away) that this occurred yesterday, and there are still four more large 401K investments that will go in as well.
While I know that long-term these are just markers along a long journey, I am glad to see what a year of dedicated investing can do and makes me really look forward to the next 10 years to see how fast the savings can accelerate
