Of course I would. It's the only logical choice.
There's a bill in Congress right now to raise the retirement age to 69 for everyone born after 1970. In reality, I know I won't get anything out. The system will collapse long before I get that old.
The only way to gracefully exit social security is to tell young people, "Hey, you're going to have to pay in to support people who are currently on social security, but you will never draw anything out. Sorry, but that's how it's got to be." Then as people on social security die, the funding requirements go down, and when the last person dies, it's over. It's the only way to wind down the system.
Now, in that case, I keep paying more, and I get nothing out. If I could get a refund right now, and stop having to pay in, I would be much better off. If I got no refund but was able to stop paying in, I would be better off.
