I dream of RV living one day. For me the benefit would be the freedom to roam the country. Not be tied to one daily routine. Unfortunately this plan is maybe 10 to 20 years away. If it is closer to 20 years, then in 10 I will take a sabbatical. The golden handcuffs of a pension keep me currently thinking I will be working longer then expected.
Pros- the ability to travel, the inability to buy and keep things, easy upkeep, cheap utilities, close cabins for even closer intimacy.
Cons- no place for family and friends to stay (a big downside for now), dealing with getting rid of the human waste (not sure how this is done but does not sound like fun), having to learn how to drive a RV or haul a trailer (also a new skill set), taking the effort to sell all of our stuff.
On the other hand, my wife and I just bought a 3100 square foot house- way to big for us (1 kid and 1 dog). We are going back and forth regarding furnishing it (she wants to buy things quickly and I want to delay, little by little). So I can see the downside of having to get rid of a lot of furniture when we determine to sell our current house. We are good about not keeping other things. We have sifted through clothes and other belongings to donate a few times a year. Luckily each time we look there is less and less to get rid of.
