Oh I love a good budget rehash. This year was the first year we finally didn’t go over budget. A lot of that had to do with having a kid and not wanting to go out to eat as much because it’s just so much freaking work with a baby
We have two adults and three young kids. I own my own business and work mostly from home during the day and a couple nights and weekends a week. My husband manages a general contractor.
Might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but hope it helps.
Food - $600/mo on groceries - but I like to buy all natural and organic. We get a lot of meat from a local farmer which is more expensive. We also shop a lot at Costco because bulk. We spend around $300/mo eating out. Generally we go to simple places the the BBQ place close by that isn’t too expensive and has an area for kids to play. We may have a more expensive date night twice a month.
Bills - mortgage is $830/mo, utilities, internet $200/mo - we have a solar system in Arizona so our electric bill is crazy low. Some months we don’t pay but the service charge of $15. Best decision ever - plus saving the environment. Amiright?!? Both our phones are paid for by the businesses.
Insurance - we cash pay health bills but also do Samaritan ministries and pay $500/to them. life ins. $140/mo
Transport - about $100/mo in gas. We live pretty close to work, $120/mo in insurance.
Expenses- it’s kind of all portioned out in categories, but total for the year we spent around $70,000 - our budgeted monthly (relatively fixed expenses) is about $58,000, and then anything outside that (home upgrades, vacations, etc.) is the rest
Pets - about $50/mo (chickens and a larger dog)
Quality of Life - daughter’s school is $260/mo, and we have dish tv ($70/mo) because heaven forbid my husband can’t watch every colllege football game known to man and DVR them all.
Savings - I save as much as possible, probably $40,000 for the year - but 90% is invested
Just for Fun - $120/mo - $50 per person (adult) and $25 for “entertainment” although we rarely use it - we both just aren’t really spenders so it makes it easier to save
