Very similar to our approach. We’ve been weening down work. I quit last Dec 1 and now blogging/working on a book. My wife still works 30 hrs/week which allows us to not touch our investments, gives us healthcare and great lifestyle flexibility (her job is work from home, location independent and very flexible). It is nice to not go from the stress of never having time to the stress of living on a strict budget, following 4% or 3% or whatever you deem appropriate as a WD strategy. Different strokes for different folks, but your Fat FIRE idea appeals to me as well and it allows for a more practical transition with a 5 y/o just entering school years.
