All the time, and quite frankly, I don't give a whip whether or not I sound like the "village crazy". I can't control what other people think of me (family or otherwise), and luckily, I don't really care what they think. We all make our own choices in life. We've chosen early retirement because we value freedom over work. Other people may value work over freedom. That's fine. To me, THAT'S crazy, but again, it's their choice.
I usually don't bring up the fact that I am an early retiree. But if the topic does come up, I'm more than willing to talk about it. If they want numbers, I'll give them numbers. I don't care. I'm an open book and will divulge almost anything if I believe that it's helpful information.
My advice: Don't worry yourself over sounding crazy. You and I (and everybody else on these forums) knows that early retirement isn't crazy. In fact, it's one of the very best things that we could possibly do with our lives because we prioritize freedom over stress and work. If they think it's crazy, that's on THEM, not you. Just be respectful and tell it like it is. If they don't agree or like what you're doing, that's fine. No problem.
They can be at work until they die if that's what makes them happy. The only thing that should matter to us...is that it DOESN'T make us happy, and so we're designing a new freedom-loving lifestyle for ourselves.
