Hello everyone, I have a question… so I sold some stocks that I’ve held for some time, over 10 years and am wondering if I’ll have a huge tax burden. The reason I sold them was to pay off my new car. I sold $12k worth and at this point only owe $2k on a $17k loan @ 2.9% APR, which I’ll pay off this month. The total cost of the car was $37K but put $3k down and had a $20k trade-in free and clear. I’ve read that I will owe taxes and I’ve read that I won’t because these were long term stocks. This was probably not the best route to take but I figured I’d try it just to get it paid off even though the interest rate was pretty low, I just always feel better not having debt. Anyone know the real story regarding tax implications?
