Hey everyone! You might know me from elsewhere in the internet blogosphere - I started my personal finance blog Poorer Than You back in 2007, when Blogspot was still a thing (it isn't anymore, right?), when Blog Carnivals were all the rage (they're gone now, right?), and when Facebook didn't even allow you to share links yet (I think it might have even still been college only!).
Or, you may not know me from the wider PF blogosphere. My blog started to go on hiatuses (is that even the plural of hiatus?) in 2010, when I got my dream job and free time took a nosedive. Then, in 2014, I was laid off from my dream job, but instead of getting back into blogging, I took a job as a Licensed Investment Advisor Representative, and was strictly NOT ALLOWED to have any new content on my blog (not even comments. Can I just say how much of a pain it is to turn commenting off on EVERY post of a seven-year-old blog in Wordpress? there's no one button for it, I can tell you that!). Ultimately, that job didn't work out, and a few jobs later, I'm back into the blogging world for real. Turned the comments all back on and everything (there's still no one-button option for that, by the way.)
I love parentheticals (can you tell?), Joss Whedon TV shows, spreadsheets, video games, and chicken wings. I also just had a baby, like 2 months ago, so I really love spending all of my time in yoga pants, nursing tops, hoodies, and a healthy layer of spit-up. Also, like all babies, mine is the cutest in the entire world, and I'm just so proud.
I'm sure my financial journey will come to light as I participate on these forums, but here's the fast version: went to film school with no idea that there was any alternative to going to college and taking on student loans to pay for it, calculated that I couldn't really afford to pay back my student loans on a Production Assistant wages, had a student loan run out on me (wait, there's a cap on those?!?), had to drop out of film school, started my blog, and spent the 10 years since working, learning, going back to school, and generally improving my financial situation, one dollar at a time. Also got married and had a kid somewhere in there (on the more recent end of things).
In addition to the blog, I'm also a fossil wrangler & customer service rockstar, and a freelance product copy writer. Working on transitioning my work to be all from-home to take care of my brand new spawn.
