Hi FI tribe! I’m Susan Bruni from Stockton, California, which is geoarbitrage inside an expensive state. I quit my engineering job seven years ago and my husband followed me into retirement three years later. We reached FI before that but it is so hard to pull the trigger. I have always been a financial geek and I discovered the The Mad FIentist and got hooked. I just joined in by creating my own blog at FIIdeas.com. My goal is not to create any type of “job” or make money. I just want to have a way to chime in and to highlight the brilliant people out there who are creating great content and have some really inspiring ideas about FI.
Here I am doing my very first backpacking trip. Stockton is located near some awesome travel spots. This is the Wildcat camp at Point Reyes.
Hi Susan, welcome to the community. I think you’ll find that a lot of us started our blogs for similar reasons as we wanted a way to track our progress or share our ideas/talk with like minded people as that’s often hard to find outside of the internet.
Thank you. I agree that it is so nice to chat with others in this community.
Hello and welcome to the forum!
Welcome Susan, beautiful picture - that looks like what retirement should be!
I’ve already been inspired by you on Twitter. It’s a pleasure to be welcomed by you.
Hi there. I see you have backpacking listed as one of your hobbies too. You have a nice looking site. I’ll check it out.
Backpacking, climbing, cycling, kayaking… anything outdoor-sports related. Except golf
Thanks for the compliments on the site, it’s pretty new!
Welcome, Susan! I like your photo as well, except I like it a little better if I pretend it’s warm!
Hi Susan, and welcome to the forum!
Welcome to the party! Looking forward to your writing.
Hello Susan, welcome! Love the picture.
Your picture brought back some great memories! We used to live in Sacramento, and my Wife’s uncle used to be a guide at Pt Reyes. Despite how expensive it is, California is a beautiful state.
Welcome to Rockstar. Keep posting pictures so I can live vicariously through you!
Welcome! We are going to northernish CA next year (not 100% sure where, for a wedding) - may have to take a trip to Point Reyes, looks lovely!
Hi Rybo! It was warm actually, even in March. It was getting cool as the sunset approached. Love California!
Hi Wealth Hound, California is expensive and we may have to move when we someday have to do our RMDs. But as Big ERN pointed out in this case study, California is a low-tax state if you keep your income below 60K.
