Using the $ for Christmas is an excellent way to avoid overspending or incurring new debt!
We did have big vacation spending this year on our cards and we also pay a few monthly recurring bills through it like cell phones and the like. We rarely pay cash for anything these days.
We use 2 primary cards right now: one is Amex card which is no longer available for new customers where we get 5% back for groceries and gas purchases. We pretty much use that card for those expenses only. The second is the Citi Double Cash card where we get 2% back for everything else.
We also recently got the Capital Venture One card where we got a $200 bonus for spending $1,000 in the first 3 months. We are not 'churners' so this is the first bonus we've gotten in many, many years.
It doesn't provide cash back, but we have a Target Redcard where we get 5% off all purchases at Target as well.
