Funny thing about investing is it isn't easy to do without a lot of money. Even brokerage accounts and muni funds have 1000+ dollar minimums. Being a Finance student in college, investing was only taught through a text book.
I wanted real world, hands on experience investing. So for my honors project that was my goal. Find a low barrier to entry investment and actually invest.
I stumbled upon Lending Club and the peer-to-peer lending industry. With very little "educational" material written on the asset class a lot of my learning came through blog posts and scouring the web for anything and everything I could find on Lending Club.
I started investing with just $500 in January of 2016 and am returning at double figure interest rates. After graduating in May of 2016 and finally having a steady paycheck. I have been able to continue to deposit $50-$100 a month to invest in their notes. Right now my account is valued over $1200 with north of $100 being earn through interest.
