The joke is that Anchorage is only 15 minutes from Alaska, and there's some truth to that -- we have big-box stores and traffic jams and gang activity. But it's also the only big U.S. town with wolves, bears (two kinds) and tons of moose within the city limits. Gorgeous mountains, stunning views of Turnagain Arm and northern lights (if it isn't cloudy).
I wish PT would have the Financial Blogger Conference up here one day, but I doubt that will happen. Some people would probably think it's too far away or too expensive. Then again, someone who lives in Seattle would have to fly a decent distance to get to a FinCon in Miami. And since Alaska Airlines just bought Virgin America, the flight options just improved.
Maybe some day. He could talk to Joe Saul-Sehy, who brought his whole family up to visit.
