Hi all! I live and work in Chicago but I call Madison, WI my home. I feel like I've stumbled upon a secret hangout of FI bloggers. I don't write, I but I love reading everything personal finance. I took a 4 year break from paying attention to the world and when I came back, the FI blogging landscape had changed immensely. My favorite bloggers like ERE stopped posting new articles, MMM is less frequent, Bargaineering was no more, Consumerist and Get Rich Slowly appeared to have changed ownership, etc. So googling new FI bloggers has lead me here, it's a wonderful site, like a one stop shop.
Generally I lurk in the background, observing and absorbing, but trying to get out of my comfort zone for personal growth. My wife passed away last year from cancer and I was in a very unhealthy/destructive place wallowing in grief. And one day, I heard her voice screaming in my head to get my stupid ass in gear and start living. So this has started me in a path to downsize, get rid of stuff, get rid of the car, minimize expenses, and save. I would like to quite in 3.5 years to pursue activities that interest me like traveling and hiking.
I'm having a hard time enjoying the FI journey so I'm always reading the FI blogs and forums for tips, education, and inspiration. Big thanks to everyone who share their writing to the world.
