I’ve been trying out a few options for this – an exit intent popup (homepage, and most page) and a bottom right popup that shows up on most individual posts.
These 2 channels are making up 16% of my total email sign ups – 7% from the popup and 9% from the exit intent. The popup shows up in the corner of the page and expands to be open once the user has scrolled half-way down a page.
If you exclude any form submissions on my one hit post though, those numbers go WAY up. There is no exit intent/popup on that post. Excluding that posts, exit intent now makes up 43% of my total email subscribers, and the popup widget makes up 36%. That leaves 21% of the form on my homepage, and embedded below every post.
The highest performing place for me was to incorporate the email sign up into the content of the post then embed the form right there. I’m planning to go back and update some older posts that get traffic with this approach.
