@FerventFinance, I left a 6-figure position 3 years ago to go stay home with my kids. Although I’m an early retiree, I work on a variety of projects (blog, FBA, investing, etc.) in my spare time outside of being Dad.
I will say that the first day I was home was really strange! It was like time stood still and the world was passing me by as I lounged around the house. What this taught me was that I still wanted to work on “things” to feel a sense of accomplishment, growth, and contribution. The difference now was that I could pick and choose exactly what I want.
Although I consider myself financially free, I’m still working on the financial independence portion, or at least trying to increase our cash flow levels for comfort. Luckily in the interim, my wife still works (thankfully she loves her job) and that supplement allows us to not have to dig into our capital.
Finally, I’m so glad that I took this opportunity to transition from the 9-5 workplace. It’s incredibly rewarding to be present for my 2 kids as they grow up (they are 4 & 2 now). I don’t know if it’s for everyone, it’s a lot hard than a traditional job in many respects. But, in my mind it’s priceless. I can always make more money in the future, but I can never get back this time with my family.
Hope this helps and I wish you all the best as you consider your options. I believe the best answers don’t come from our head, but rather from our heart. It takes a little quiet to hear what it’s saying sometimes, but it’s well worth a listen.
