I personally think we have it best for FIRE (sorry y'all).
OK, our food costs are higher, shopping costs, heating costs... But we don't pay for health care.
I can retire without the worry of health insurance premiums going up or (god forbid) not having insurance.
Investment wise, we have Vanguard Canada, I have all our investments there at a very low fee, commission free.
Another great thing we have going on is our tax system.
Even though some say income taxes are high here, they are high in the states too. We have a bunch of loopholes (legal of course) to reduce our taxes to very reasonable levels.
In addition, our retirement accounts are much simpler. I read about back doors conversions and all the different numbers they have for their accounts! We just put money in rsp and tfsa and take it out without fancy conversions.
And we have maple syrup so...
