I'm a GS 8 who has about 8 years in (give or take, not sure how internship time counts in that). I'll have 20 years in at 38, 30 at 48, so that's all kinds of fun because either way I won't be at minimum retirement age. I'm working on paying off college debt as intensely as possible, but am still putting 10% into my Roth TSP. My loan should be paid off in November, so I'll be working on maxing that out as soon as that's done. Frankly, I don't want to work for the government forever, but the healthcare benefits and leave policies are so nice, it's also hard to imagine leaving. I don't have any other debt, and I keep finding people I work with have lots of side hustles, so it motivates me to keep trying stuff on the side. I don't have a financial planner. I know very little about retirement from the government, but I'm not counting on FERS or SS.
